How does air source work?

Air source heat pumps (ASHP) rely on vapour compression, transferring the hot air from a place to another exactly in the same way as a refrigerator does. Read more about how air source heat pumps work here.

Can I connect it to my original radiators?

The simple answer is yes! Radiators need to be sized to maintain the correct, ambient temperature. The lower this set point, the more efficient your heat pump will be, and therefore the cheaper to run.

How will this benefit me?

Lower fuel bills, especially if you are replacing conventional electric heating, potential income through the UK government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), lower home carbon emissions, depending on which fuel you are replacing, no fuel deliveries needed, can heat your home as well as your water, minimal maintenance required, can be easier to install than a ground source heat pump.

Can an Air source Heat Pump be connected to other renewable sources?

When used in conjunction with renewable energy sources (Solar Hot water, Solar PV and/or wind turbine) there is potential for zero cost or even negative cost (sell all surplus energy back to the Grid) heating and hot water with the corresponding substantial reduction in CO2 emissions. What kind of Maintenance Does a Heat Pump Need?

There is some maintenance that the owner can do himself It includes keeping the whole apparatus clean while the condition of some technical parts needs to be checked by a skilled technician. It is advisable to have the device checked every year in order to keep track of possible issues that could arise.
