To size the air source heat pump correctly for your property, a full, room-by-room heat loss survey needs to be undertaken, as defined in the MCS installer standards.
Greenscape Energy offers these surveys free of charge. These appointments usually take around an hour, although larger properties may take longer to measure up.
This involves looking at each room, identifying the dimensions, insulation, windows and the existing form(s) of heating.
Our report will contain the heat demand for each room, detailing how many units of heat are required, taking into account the air changes and heat loss within the room. This also takes into consideration the radiator sizes required.
In some cases, the report may indicate necessary improvements to make your property suitable for air source, such as loft insulation, or increasing the size of radiators. We can arrange for any of this to be undertaken as part of your install.
We are aware that some companies are not undertaking full heat loss surveys until they have had some form of commitment from you to go ahead with an install.
We can assure you that quoting based on estimations or utilising online calculators will often lead to under or over-sizing heat pump quotations. An under-sized heat pump will not be able to heat your property adequately, and whilst it struggles to do so, it will vastly increase your energy bill.
Unfortunately, there will always be companies contravening MCS standards and taking shortcuts. Such installers have created us plenty of work fixing faulty Solar PV installations. In the long-run, it always pays to go for a reputable, trustworthy installer.
