Vaillant aroTHERM Plus Air Source Heat Pumps
Vaillant is one of the best-established names in UK domestic heating. The Vaillant aroTHERM Plus is their flagship R290 air source heat pump, with a maximum flow temperature of up to 75°C, which suits retrofitting onto older radiator systems with minimal radiator upgrade work. 7-year extended warranty when installed by our MasterTEC-status team.
For customers who already trust the Vaillant brand from a previous boiler, who specifically want the established UK service network, or whose property has older radiators they want to keep without upgrade, Vaillant is often the right call.

What makes Vaillant different in our range
-
1.A 75°C flow temperature for older radiators
The Vaillant aroTHERM Plus can deliver flow temperatures up to 75°C, the same maximum as Clivet and above Stiebel Eltron’s 65°C. That flow temperature can deliver heat into smaller or older radiators without upgrading them to a larger surface area.
For most Greenscape installs the flow temperature is set lower (40-55°C) regardless of brand, because lower flow means a higher SCOP. For properties where radiator upgrades would be especially disruptive, such as period properties with original cast-iron radiators or listed buildings where alterations are restricted, the 75°C headroom lets the system heat those radiators without a full upgrade.
-
2.The most familiar brand in UK domestic heating
Vaillant has installed millions of boilers across UK homes over the past several decades. The brand recognition matters for some customers: you know the badge, you trust the badge, and the UK service network is among the largest in the industry.
For customers replacing a Vaillant boiler with a heat pump, staying in the Vaillant ecosystem also means familiarity with the controls (myVAILLANT app) and consistency of warranty processes.
-
3.R290 refrigerant, same future-proofing as Clivet
Like Clivet, the Vaillant aroTHERM Plus uses R290 (propane) refrigerant. R290 has a Global Warming Potential of just 3, compared with 675 for R32 or 2088 for older R410A. Future UK and EU F-Gas regulations are tightening on high-GWP refrigerants, and R290 sits well below all current and forecast regulatory thresholds.
-
4.The 7-year warranty (extended free with our install)
Vaillant aroTHERM Plus comes with a 2-year standard manufacturer warranty. Extended to 7 years free of charge when registered through our Vaillant MasterTEC accredited install and submitted within 30 days. We handle the warranty registration on your behalf.
The 7-year manufacturer cover plus our 5-year workmanship guarantee provides the same warranty depth as our Clivet installs.
-
5.Acoustic performance
Vaillant aroTHERM Plus is Quiet Mark accredited, with sound output around 48 dB(A) at 1 metre. Quieter than typical traffic noise, similar to a fridge running. Outdoor unit position is chosen during survey to minimise impact on bedrooms and outdoor living areas regardless.
The Vaillant range we install

| Best for | Most homes, best balance of efficiency, value, and smart control | Customers prioritising high flow temperature (less radiator upgrade work), or wanting the Vaillant brand they trust from their previous boiler | Larger/more complex properties, properties in colder microclimates, customers specifying premium engineering above all |
We recommend Clivet as the default for most homes because the Adia Thermal Control System integration delivers the strongest real-world SCOP at the lowest install cost across our range.
We recommend Vaillant specifically when:
-
The customer has older or smaller radiators they want to keep without upgrade (Vaillant’s 75°C max flow temperature suits this)
-
The customer already has a Vaillant boiler and prefers to stay in the same ecosystem with the same app, the same warranty processes, and the same brand they already trust
-
The customer has a strong preference for the Quiet Mark acoustic certification
-
The customer specifies “the most established UK brand” as a deciding factor
We recommend Stiebel Eltron for larger / more complex properties or for customers wanting premium German engineering with the deepest cold-weather operation specification.
Pricing context
Vaillant pricing sits slightly above Clivet for the same property size, reflecting the brand premium.

Common questions about Vaillant
01 Is Vaillant noticeably better than Clivet?
Not on real-world efficiency. Clivet + Adia Thermal typically delivers SCOP 4.6 vs Vaillant’s 4.0-4.5. Both reach 75°C flow temperature. Where Vaillant wins is brand familiarity and Quiet Mark acoustic accreditation. For customers where those matter, Vaillant is the right pick. For customers prioritising efficiency-per-pound, Clivet usually wins.
02 What is the warranty really?
2 years standard manufacturer warranty. Extended to 7 years free of charge when the unit is registered through our Vaillant MasterTEC install certification (which is standard practice on every Vaillant we install). Plus our 5-year workmanship guarantee on the install itself. Practical total: 7-year manufacturer cover + 5-year workmanship cover.
03 Can the aroTHERM Plus really hit 75°C flow temperature?
Yes, the unit is engineered for it. But running at high flow temperature reduces SCOP, so we typically only push toward the upper end of the range when retrofit constraints require it. For most installs the system is tuned to a flow temperature of 40-55°C, which delivers SCOP 4.0+ comfortably.
04 What if I have an existing Vaillant boiler?
You stay in the Vaillant ecosystem (same app, same brand support, similar control philosophy). The boiler comes out as part of the heat pump install and is replaced by the aroTHERM Plus + cylinder + controls. The myVAILLANT app you may already use for boiler monitoring continues to be the control interface for the new heat pump.
05 Does Vaillant integrate with smart tariffs?
The myVAILLANT app supports time-of-use scheduling, so you can configure the system to pre-heat the hot water cylinder and the home itself during cheap off-peak windows. It is less automated than the Adia Thermal Control System on Clivet installs (which actively integrates with your tariff in real time), but the basic smart-tariff capability is there.
06 Does Vaillant integrate with my solar/battery?
Yes. The aroTHERM Plus and myVAILLANT app support integration with smart energy management systems. If you have or are adding a Greenscape solar and battery setup, we configure the integration during commissioning.
